Christophe AVELLA-BAGUR Calm Chaos October 8 – December 6, 2016
Jean-Luc and Takako Richard are pleased to invite you to the 15th solo exhibition of Christophe AVELLA-BAGUR titled ‘Calm Chaos’ from October 8th to December 6th, 2016.
These new works created since 2014 are part of the largest Face FS series and expand his visual sight. The Face FS series that began in 2004-2005 was characterized by a human soul represented by a bloody fleshy face trying to take possession of the super human’s face. This superhuman is a standardized mass –produced creation in grey and a perfect looking. The artist meant to emphasize a confrontation between two opposed worlds: the standardization of the world versus
the uniqueness of the individuals. This confrontation with the paintings causes the feelings of anxiety, nervousness or even fright sometimes. This might be caused not only by the power of Image that art work has but also by the intention of the artist forcing the viewers to face the issues of our time and deal with them.
In this exhibition, two pieces of recent paintings are unveiled: “Golgoth’Art” and “New Apostles”.
“Golgoth’Art” shows us a large format of his atelier and artist himself, showing both the artistic path and his art works in progress. His atelier becomes the place where the artist realizes its own model of artistic references as a human being living in the society religiously and historically.
The artist had conceptualized his work as 'Hyper Painting ". The painting is a cultural object part of the History. It is complete work, where there is a sense of liberty. It is also a renewed medium which is the combination of all notions of times mixed together: past, present and future. 'Hyper Painting' could represent entire culture that give us a new concept.
“The New Apostles” series represent a gallery of female portraits with male portraits depicted as a mankind who has left behind by a declining today’s society. By contemplating his work which translates various stories, we could feel empathy.
